Petimezi is an all natural, 100% pure concentrated grape must.
Petimezi is a naturally sweet whole grape syrup, produced by cooking and concentrating the grapes used for winemaking. It is a natural sweetener used from ancient times as a healthy substitute for sugar. It is found around the Mediterranean cuisine. Greeks call it Petimezi, Italians call it Saba and Turks call it Pekmez. Together with raw honey and carob syrup, they were the most common sweeteners when sugar was too expensive to purchase.

Petimezi can be used in a number of ways. From dressing salads, to pouring over ice cream and pancakes. It also goes great with goat cheeses and mascarpone. Try it as a topping on Greek yogurt and replacing sugar when making sweets with an analogy of 1:1.
Try it also as a side dish for any meat dish. Replace any balsamic vinegar, maple syrup or cranberry sauce to petimezi for a healthier and different approach.

I like trying new ingredients and I thought I should experiment with this one even though I had never tried a petimezi before. I loved it and I now use it a lot in salads instead of vinegar – it’s so yummy in a simple lettuce salad with olive oil and oregano. It’s also great for marinating meats. It’s a pretty unique ingredient, sweet with a bitter undertone, which makes it a great addition to both sweet and savory recipes, a very flexible ingredient. My Greek friends tell me Ariadne’s petimezi is as good as it gets.

Bought this grape syrup to use as an alternative to honey, maple syrup and agave syrup and found it made a great sweetener for cereals and cut-up fresh berries. Also good as a topping for plain yogurt and even ice cream. I’m very pleased, it’s a five star product that I’m recommending to everyone.
